Fortis appoints Marc Luet as Chief Executive Officer for Consumer Credits


BRUSSELS, Belgium, March 24, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Management Team Retail Banking complete. Fortis has appointed Marc Luet as Chief Executive Officer for its Consumer Credit business as of mid-April. He will report to Jos Clijsters, CEO Retail Banking and a member of the Fortis Executive Committee. His objective will be to develop Fortis's international presence in the consumer credit market. Marc Luet's responsibilities will include the Fortis subsidiaries Alpha Credit (Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland), DEFAM as well as International Card Services (ICS) in the Netherlands.

"We specify in our strategy that Fortis is making consumer credits a priority with a view to boosting future growth. The consumer credit market is still an attractive one, with high margins, in which Fortis wants to increase its international market share. We are very pleased that Marc Luet, who has a well-balanced international profile and an outstanding track record, will be joining our team," Jos Clijsters commented.

Marc Luet (41), a French national, joins Fortis after an 11-year career with Citigroup in Canada, Central Europe and Belgium. From 1999 until the end of 2002, he held the position of Chairman and CEO of Citibank Belgium. He was appointed Chairman of Egg in France in January 2003.
