US equities began the trading session below water and continued to be below water 'til the close. Across the board, the market deteriorated from the open and never recovered. Daytraders got a little movement down and up during the day however stocks really just couldn't find a reason to move up.
Equities that were big percent losers include, among others, Ak Steel Holding Corp, Department 56 Inc, and Torch Energy Roy Tr.
In the final analysis, it's clear that, traders just didn't know what to do based on stories like: Safeway's announcement to pay a quarterly dividend, Royal Group's decision to entertain possible deals, and Northwest's announcement that they want to shore up pension plans.
Of course, a few stocks moved up, however. Continucare Corp, Badger Paper Mills Inc, and Able Laboratories Inc each had sharp moves for the day.
