 StockPickReport Commentary
 Thursday Recap
 Don Harrold, Senior Analyst

The equity markets turned in a small advance Thursday. Nevertheless, stocks limped out of the gates with a boring day of trading at the open. During the trading session equities moved without direction only to close up for the session with just a slight gain.

Talk on the street with regard to political stability, interest rates, and gold furnished folks a lot to reckon with. Many investors reported that headlines like, Dobson denying the sale of American Cellular, Repsol's joint bid for some Shell assets, and Cumulus seeking a refinanced credit line, weren't really a factor in Thursday's action.

Investors did find some market-beating stocks, though. Equities that realized significant strides include Trinity Biotech, Excel Maritime Carriers, and Metrogas Sa Ads. Traders showed a great deal of interest in Metrogas Sa Ads!

Most analysts hold the opinion that equities are near a decision point. In light of all the trepidation in the news recently regarding unemployment, it's sortof interesting the stock market did not close down on the day. The fact of the matter is, people might question how come the market ticked-up at the end of the day anyhow.

One source remarked, "We're seeing a little pause here, but we're in the middle of a powerful uptrend, and traders should be looking at every dip in the market to find a new entry point." -- Ken Tower, chief market strategist for Schwab's CyberTrader

Equities you'll want to keep your eye on in the next session include Bema Gold Corp, Microsoft, and Lucent Technologies. Share volume was particularly heavy those stocks. Investors may see the same pattern for the next market session.
