STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 2, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Artimplant: According to a dissertation by Dr. Fredrik Huss at Linkoping University, Sweden, it seems as Artelon(R) could act as a dermal filler for reconstructive surgery of skin (dermis).
An in vitro study showed that fibroblasts (soft tissue cells) divided and migrated into the porous Artelon(R) material.
The biomaterial Artelon(R) was used in a pilot study on voluntary healthy human subjects. Artelon(R) was completely infiltrated by fibroblasts eight weeks after the implantation. The tissue was similar to normal human dermis.
"Reconstructive soft tissue surgery of skin is an interesting future area for Artelon(R) and we continue our work with earlier results," says CEO Tord Lendau.
The study is part of a thesis by Dr. Fredrik Huss which is being defended at Linkopings University September 2. The title of the thesis is ``In vitro and in vivo studies of tissue engineering in reconstructive plastic surgery."
