Learning to Live in the Violent Society -- New Book by Former Member of Parliament Examines Terrorism in Today's World

LONDON, March 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Daily news headlines offer proof that terrorism is a collective force to be reckoned with around the world. No longer are incidents viewed as singular coincidences; the post-September 11 environment is now largely engulfed by this web of hostility. Professor Eric Moonman, former member of British Parliament and a leading counterterrorism expert, presents his thoughts on this timely topic in his new book, Learning to Live in the Violent Society (now available through AuthorHouse).

As a lecturer, scholar and politician, Moonman has a wealth of knowledge about the innermost workings of the war on terror. His is an international point of view and includes firsthand accounts of the London bombings in July. Before he discusses such current events, however, Moonman provides readers with an explanation of why, and perhaps more importantly an examination of how, acts of violence occur every day in both Britain and the United States.

"Learning to Live in the Violent Society is a hard-headed expose of the violent and terrorist mind," says Moonman.

His book leaves no stone unturned in the search for a solution to this global epidemic. Moonman deftly examines the proliferation of terrorist weapons and what he terms "superterrorism," biological warfare and the exploitation of cyber terrorism. Learning to Live in the Violent Society is a mix of new information and new ways of looking into a problem felt even in the most remote regions of the world.

Despite his in-depth analysis of the trauma wrought by such violence, Moonman shares positives with readers as well. Just as he presents a look at how and why terrorist acts thrive, so he also lays the groundwork for confronting and coping with them.

Learning to Live in the Violent Society is a refreshingly candid look at what can be done by the average citizen to come to terms with the complexities of what Moonman calls "the modern disease of terrorism."

Moonman has lectured on both sides of the Atlantic and is a senior member of the Inter University Center for Terrorism Studies in Washington, D.C. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and holds degrees from the University of Liverpool and the University of Manchester. He has published several other books, including The Alternative Government and The Violent Society and he is a contributor to the London Times and The New York Times.
