TASER Device Ends Armed Standoff


WASHINGTON, March 16, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from Illinois' 1350 WJBD AM, Salem Police were called to the scene of an armed standoff inside a residence on Chatham Drive at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning. A man had barricaded himself inside the home and was threatening to shoot an automatic weapon. Police were initially called to the scene in regard to a domestic disturbance between the man and his wife.

Salem Police called in SWAT officers as well as the Marion County Sheriff's Department over the course of the standoff. A TASER(R) device was used to incapacitate the man when he charged towards them once they forced into the residence.

The standoff ended just before 6 a.m. and the man was taken to Salem Township Hospital for mental evaluation. No criminal charges are being pursued.
