TASER Device Used to Avert Major Tragedy

WASHINGTON, March 30, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from MetroWest Daily News, Framingham (Mass.) police were called to a residence on Pine Street at about 8:30 p.m. on Monday evening to check on the well-being of a local 27-year-old man after calls from the mother of the man's ex-girlfriend.

On arrival police heard loud music and did not receive any response to bangs on the door. After forcing the door open officers found the 400-pound man challenging them with a knife as he stabbed himself in the chest and neck. Police waited for an officer to arrive with a TASER(r) device so they could avoid further injury to the man or to any officers by advancing to get him in custody. After deploying the TASER device, police were able to restrain the man and take him to the hospital for medical attention to the self-inflicted wounds.

Lt. Paul Shastany said that TASER systems are tools used for immediate problems and that the device kept a man alive and protected officers from being attacked.
