TASER Device Ends Suicide Attempt in Public Park


WASHINGTON, Oct. 9, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Marin Independent Journal out of California, a suicidal man was arrested and treated Sunday after running across Dunphy Park stabbing himself with a knife. Police were speaking to the man at about 11 a.m. near Dunphy Park at 1600 Bridgeway when he suddenly pulled a knife out of his pocket and ran from officers while stabbing himself in the arm.

The suspect was running towards Caledonia Street when police deployed a TASER device to prevent the man from further harming himself or others. Police transported the man to Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae for treatment before turning him over to the community mental health unit for evaluation. In a press release put out by the Sausalito police, the man told officers that he had been "contemplating the bridge" for several days.
