TASER Device Prevents Suicide Attempt


WASHINGTON, Oct. 30, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Herald-Mail in Pennsylvania, a person attempting suicide was subdued by a TASER device Wednesday night after pressing a knife to their throat and chest. The individual, whose name and gender have not been released, was on East Avenue and North Locust Street around 11:15 p.m. when the Hagerstown Police Department responded to the scene. Officer Tom Kelley was talking to the person when they became distracted by other officers arriving for backup. While distracted, Officer Kelley deployed his TASER device, forcing the person to drop the knife.

Police transported the individual to Washington County Hospital for an emergency mental evaluation.
