TASER Device Used to Arrest Armed Man

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Herald Standard in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, a local man threatened to harm officers Monday when they arrived at his Askren Street home to serve the man with a warrant. Detective Jason Cox said the unidentified man began threatening county officials outside his home just after 1:00 p.m., requiring the assistance of police backup and the Fayette County Mental Health Intervention Team. Cox arrived and attempted to speak to the man several times but he continued to threaten anyone wanting to come inside the home.

Patrolmen Eric Hanula and David Rutter accompanied Cox into the home where they ascended a flight of stairs to find the man in a bedroom within close reach of a shotgun. The man became more aggressive as police reached the top of the stairs. Cox responded by deploying his TASER device to subdue the man to be taken into custody. He was then transported to the Highlands Hospital in Connellsville for evaluation.

Police Chief Ronald Kozak said that TASER technology is an effective non-lethal measure in spaces too confined for the use of pepper spray and a tool that ensures officer safety. "It is truly one of the most effective uses of non-lethal force," Kozak said. "It turns an attacker into a puppy in a split-second and it keeps my guys from getting hurt."
