TASER Device Ends Shooting, Prevents Suicide

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to reports from news channel LEX 18 out of Lexington, Kentucky, a 39-year-old Berea man was arrested Tuesday morning on various charges including five counts of first degree wanton endangerment. Jeffrey Croucher allegedly got into an argument with a co-worker around 9:00 a.m. at the Old Middleton School, owned by Berea College, which is currently under renovation. Croucher apparently began arguing with another person working on the renovation project, then left the site for about 30 minutes and returned firing random shots from a handgun.

Officials who responded to the scene said Croucher asked officers to shoot him. Police then deployed a TASER device to subdue the man. A short struggle followed, injuring one officer who was later transported to a local hospital. No one was hurt during the shooting.

Police are currently investigating reports that Croucher had attacked his mother earlier in the morning.
