TASER Device Prevents Suicide Attempt

According to reports from KOIN News Channel 6 out of Oregon, a 49-year-old woman was subdued by police Wednesday after attempting to commit suicide outside of a strip mall on Northwest 185th Avenue in Hillsboro. Police arrived at about 4:30 p.m. to find the woman disoriented and holding a 5-inch knife. When confronted by officers, the woman held the blade to her throat and ignored requests by police to drop the knife. After numerous attempts to convince her to release the weapon failed, police deployed a TASER electronic control device to subdue the woman. She was then taken to Providence St. Vincent Hospital for treatment and evaluation. Police reported that the woman had intentionally overdosed on prescription medication.
