RIDGEWOOD, N.J., May 8, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Dog owners that have ever wondered about the exact genetic makeup of their dogs don't have to wonder anymore. There is now a solution that can determine the exact breed composition of your dog.

Canine Heritage is the first DNA-based diagnostic test that helps consumers determine the exact genetic makeup of their pups. Currently the test can certify up to 38 of the major breeds that comprise about 75% of the domestic canine population.

Knowing the exact breed of a dog can help owners determine the personality and health weaknesses as well. That can help owners get a leg up on how they should be treating their mutts.

Canine Heritage(tm) Breed Test was created earlier this year by biotech company, MetaMorphix, Inc.

"The vast majority of dogs in this country are of mixed breed -- and owners get a kick out of learning the genetic makeup of their mutts," says Dr. Ed Quattlebaum, President and CEO of MetaMorphix, Inc.
