Children's Book Addresses Sibling Rivalry Through a Fascinating Story

WASHINGTON, July 2, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Parents who are looking for an educational picture story-book for their young children that addresses sibling rivalry, the dangers of talking to strangers, jealousy, and acting impulsively, will want their kids to hear about the exciting adventure of Tusky, a cute little elephant. Written by psychologist Kenneth R. Greenberg, Ph.D., Tusky's Big Decision is a delightful, read-to book with vibrant illustrations and stimulating discussion questions after each chapter that will encourage a positive interaction between the reader and child.

The night before a big carnival comes to his village, Tusky and his sister, Ellie, get into a fight over an alarm clock. Their mother hears them and sends both of them to their bed rooms. Tusky is punished but he thinks that his mother did not punish Ellie. He concludes that Ellie is his mother's favorite child and that she loves her more than she loves him. In anger, Tusky makes the impulsive decision to run away from home. He ignores the good advice from 3 of his very interesting friends as he proceeds to the carnival to meet his best friend Packy (derived from pachyderm). When he gets to the carnival, Packy is not there. Tusky meets Spike, a stranger. Although he knows better, he lets Spike lure him to a dangerous part of the jungle. Once there, Spike kidnaps Tusky. When Packy gets to the carnival and doesn't see Tusky he becomes worried and turns to Hooty, a wise owl who is their friend and mentor, for help. Hooty finds Tusky tied up and devises a clever plan to free him. After Tusky escapes, Hooty wants to know why Tusky decided to run away from home. Hooty tells Tusky that he has let the Green-eyed Monster called jealousy get inside of him. Hooty then helps Tusky overcome his jealousy and Tusky decides not to run away from home. When Tusky gets home, he gets the biggest surprise of his life. Tusky's Big Decision is intended for children from the age of 6 and beyond.
