BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Empire Interactive, a leading international electronic game developer and publisher and a wholly owned subsidiary of Silverstar Holdings (Nasdaq:SSTR), announced FlatOut Head On for the PSP(r) (PlayStation(r)Portable) system will be launched globally in the fourth quarter of 2007.
With over 2.5 million units sold worldwide, the award winning FlatOut franchise is now one of the most successful racing series across multiple formats. Since FlatOut debuted on the Xbox 360 in Europe in late June, the game has been critically acclaimed and a consistent Top 10 seller in all European markets for the past 10 weeks.
More recently, the FlatOut free playable demo has been the number one downloaded game on the Xbox 360 platform. This PSP version is the first handheld game based on the FlatOut franchise and follows the recent announcement of three versions of FlatOut on the mobile platform.
FlatOut is the benchmark in grand scale destruction racing. Fans of the console versions will be able to take the mayhem with them wherever they go, including four-player wireless connectivity. PSP players new to FlatOut will enjoy the instant jump-in-and-race game play.
Game play is based on the console version of Ultimate Carnage, with eight cars racing together and a variety of game play options. Players can select from 45 cars, 40 tracks, six varied environments, and more than 80 different racing combinations.
"Transferring FlatOut's unique game play style from consol to handheld is a tremendous developmental challenge," said Rob Noble, Empire's European marketing manager. "The developer, Six by Nine, has done an exceptional job of taking the closely packed, highly destructive racing mayhem of FlatOut and squeezing it into a portable device. The results are stunning."
