Axis network cameras to improve public-transport security in Switzerland Axis Communications network cameras will be installed to improve the public transport security in a project being undertaken by the Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) in Switzerland. Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) has decided to install the newly announced AXIS 209MFD network camera in double-decker commuter trains around Zürich to improve safety and security for passengers and personnel. The total installation order is estimated at about 5,000 network cameras, with the potential for additional installations. The installation phase will begin during autumn 2007 and is expected to be fully delivered by the end of 2009. “Installations of network video solutions within the transportation segment have increased during the past few years and network video products from Axis have been installed in several demanding transportation environments. The new AXIS 209MFD network camera addresses the market's demand for video surveillance in locations where an ultra-compact solution is required,” said Ray Mauritsson, President, Axis Communications. Network video has a number of key advantages compared with analog technology, offering higher image quality, cost-efficient installations, easier access to stored material for security personnel as well as intelligent solutions. The network camera AXIS 209MFD is only four centimeters high and are easy to install on ceilings and walls and offers the advantage of megapixel resolution, making it possible to view image details needed for identifying individuals and objects of interest. Equipped with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, the network camera uses one Ethernet cable for both power and video, making installation quick and cost efficient. The AXIS 290MFD also provides the possibility of integrating of other components in a security system. The system integrator RUF Telematik AG secured the order for the total security installation. RUF is a partner to Axis and a highly regarded company in the area of security solutions and network camera surveillance. ”We searched for a reliable partner that could offer the best image quality and the best state-of-the-art technology. Simple installation, a fully automatic and simplified management of the cameras and the total solution was of outmost importance to us. It was especially important for all involved that these cameras were IP-cameras, since we clearly see that the analog technology will be phased out in Switzerland as well as in the rest of Europe. This is not the future, it is the reality,” says Sven Schraven, Project Manager RUF Telematik AG.
