PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - November 8, 2007) - Cooley Godward Kronish LLP today announced
that effective January 1, 2008, Joe Conroy will become the Firm's
full-time chief executive officer. Stephen C. Neal, who has served as the
Firm's chairman and CEO for the past seven years, will remain as chairman.
Conroy, a partner in the Firm's Business Department and resident in
Cooley's Reston, VA office, is a long-time member of the Firm's Executive,
Management and Compensation Committees, has served as partner in charge of
the Reston and Washington, DC offices, and is currently chair of the
Strategic Planning Committee. Conroy led the Firm's recent efforts in
opening its Boston office and played a critical role in the Firm's
expansion on the East Coast, including the opening of the New York office
via last year's merger with Kronish Lieb, as well as the continued
expansion of the Reston and Washington offices.
"Since joining Cooley in 1999, Joe has become an invaluable and respected
leader, and one of our most able ambassadors," said Neal. "His business and
legal acumen, and his inherent sense of how to build upon Cooley's legacy
makes my transition from this role an easy one. I am confident that under
his leadership our greatest days lie ahead."
Prior to joining Cooley, Conroy was a partner in the business practice
group of the law firm of Hunton & Williams. Conroy also founded and served
as president of a successful software company. He earned a JD from the
Boston University School of Law in 1986 and earned a B.S. Commerce, with
distinction, from the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia
in 1983.
"I am honored and extremely enthusiastic to be named Cooley's chief
executive officer and am energized by the challenge of continuing to build
this fine firm," said Conroy. "Cooley is a strong institution, full of
remarkable and talented attorneys and staff. I look forward to guiding us
into the future, and enhancing our legacy as a preeminent law firm
providing critical legal services to the many of the world's most dynamic
companies and institutions."
Neal will continue to practice law full time, and in addition to his role
as chairman, will continue to serve on the Firm's Executive, Management and
Compensation Committees. As chairman he will be actively involved in
long-range planning and strategic expansion. Mark Pitchford will continue
to serve as the Firm's chief operating officer, overseeing day-to-day
operations.
