FHLBank Names Advisory Council Appointees


CINCINNATI, Feb. 7, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati (FHLBank) has named five members to its 2008 Advisory Council (Council). The 15-member Council provides guidance to the board and staff on housing needs and programs that will enhance the FHLBank's affordable housing and economic development programs in its Fifth District territory of Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee. All appointments are three-year terms, effective January 1, 2008:

Robert Brewster, Executive Director, Brighton Center and Brighton Properties, Newport, Kentucky, has served with Brighton since 1969, guiding and developing the organization from a small neighborhood center to a distinguished housing developer and social services provider with more than 170 staff and four subsidiary organizations. He earned two bachelor's degrees from Brescia College, Owensboro, Kentucky, and a master's degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

George Brown, Executive Director, Clermont Senior Services, Inc., Batavia, Ohio, has devoted his professional career to the needs of senior adults, including the development of nearly 180 units of affordable housing. Prior to his current position, which he has held for 16 years, he was director of the Indiana Department of Human Services, worked with Santa Maria Community Services, Cincinnati, and served on three Councils on Aging: Muncie, Dillsboro and Southwestern Ohio. He earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia Union College, Takoma Park, Maryland.

Steven Gladman is President of The Affordable Housing Trust for Columbus and Franklin County, Columbus, Ohio. The privately-funded Trust provides financing and technical assistance for the development/rehabilitation of over 1,700 units of affordable housing in central Ohio. Mr. Gladman, who has served in his current position since October 2006, is recognized for his advocacy work in addressing inequities in the insurance and property valuation of affordable rental housing. He earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from The Ohio State University, Columbus.

Alvin Nance is President and CEO of Knox Community Development Corporation (KCDC), Knoxville, Tennessee. KCDC is the public housing and redevelopment agency for Knox County, Tennessee, and operates more than 3,600 units of affordable housing. A former commercial banker, Mr. Nance has served with many business, civic and service organizations, including membership on the boards of the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, United Way, First Tennessee Bank, ET Children's Hospital, Fannie Mae Advisory Board, Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity, Maryville College, and the YMCA. He earned a bachelor's degree from Maryville College, Maryville, Tennessee.

Deborah Williams is Executive Director of Housing Assistance and Development Services, Inc. (H.A.N.D.S.), Bowling Green, Kentucky. H.A.N.D.S. is a not-for-profit developer of over 2,050 units of affordable single- and multi-family housing throughout the state. Ms. Williams joined the organization as Executive Director in December 2005. She has a banking background, having previously served as Vice President/Community Development Manager for Regions/AmSouth Bank/First American Bank. She holds a bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green.

The FHLBank is an $87 billion, triple-A rated regional wholesale bank providing financial services for residential housing and economic development to 731 member financial institutions located in the Fifth FHLBank District of Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. The Federal Home Loan Bank System, including 12 district FHLBanks, was chartered in 1932 by the U.S. Congress to promote housing finance but is wholly owned by its member institution stockholders and does not use taxpayer dollars.
