TASER Device Used to Stop Man Armed With a Gun While Fighting Police During An Arrest in Canton, OH


SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 25, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to an article in the February 22, 2008 edition of the Canton Repository, the Canton Police Department is crediting the use of a TASER(r) electronic control device (ECD) for avoiding tragedy last Wednesday in Canton, OH.

According to the article, Canton Police officers attempted to arrest a suspect who had allegedly tried to rob a business and struck a woman in the head with a gun. During the arrest, Canton Police said the man fought police officers and pulled out a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun, then grabbed an officer's gun that had "fallen loose."

A TASER ECD was then deployed and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was charged with aggravated robbery, illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment, having weapons under disability, carrying concealed weapons, cocaine trafficking, cocaine possession, felony drug tampering, and resisting arrest.
