Police Use TASER Device to Rescue a Man From a Suicide Attempt

According to a report in the April 28, 2008 edition of the Bladen Journal from Elizabethtown, NC, police used a TASER(r) Electronic Control Device on Wesley Fox Brown, 55, of Marietta, GA, to subdue him and stop him from using a knife to stab himself.

The Elizabethtown Police Department responded to a call at 7:28 p.m. on Friday regarding an individual attempting to drive a van through the front doors of a Wachovia Bank. When officers responded, Brown wedged his van into the building and was waving a knife and screaming at the officers to shoot him. Within a few minutes, Brown then turned the weapon on himself and started stabbing himself repeatedly in the abdomen. Once restrained, Brown was taken to Bladen County Hospital for treatment.
