Suicidal Man in Michigan Subdued With a TASER Device by Local Authorities


SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., July 25, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices (ECDs), issued the following NEWS ALERT:

According to an article in the July 23, 2008 edition of The County Press, three officers from the Lapeer County Sheriff's Department were dispatched after a suicidal 25-year-old man's parents called 911. When the officers arrived on the scene the young man was missing. Later, the officers found the man on the roof with a gun taunting the officers to kill him. After long negotiations, there was a brief struggle with the deputies and the suicidal man was subdued with a TASER(r) Electronic Control Device, so he could be handcuffed and taken off the roof.

The article quotes Lieutenant Gary Parks, saying, "Here's a case where our guys went out there. They could see that this guy wanted the police to shoot him, and our guys are trained in that scenario." He continued to say, "They saved this guy's life."
