Major League Baseball Team "Hits It Out of the Park" With Infoblox Appliances for Essential Core Network Services
| Source: Infoblox
SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - August 25, 2008) - Infoblox Inc. today announced that Major
League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks have deployed Infoblox appliances
for the delivery of core network services, including external and internal
domain name resolution (DNS) and IP address assignment and management
(DHCP/IPAM) -- essential network services for all IP networks and
applications, such as email, eCommerce transactions and more.
Now in their eleventh season playing at Chase Field in Phoenix, the D-backs
have seen a constant increase in attendance and their fan base. The team's
administrative office personnel depend on their IT network to support the
operational aspects of running a highly successful team, a growing fan base
and popular ballpark. And, the D-backs have representatives from hundreds
of worldwide media outlets attending each game. Each outlet needs a secure
IP address to seamlessly log into the network and file their stories.
Finally, due to the sensitive financial information, such as player
contracts and customers' personal credit card information, security is a
significant concern for the D-backs.
"Prior to Infoblox, we were using a general purpose server-based solution
to manage all the DNS and DHCP services across the network; this system was
inherently insecure and difficult and timely to patch and upgrade," said
Christine Stoffel, the D-backs' vice president of IT. "There was a
distinct effort from our IT department to put a more robust, secure and
stable infrastructure in place and we wanted to go with Infoblox. The
Infoblox appliances have unique technology that provides secure and
reliable core network services we know we can count on."
The Infoblox appliances are deployed in high availability pairs at Chase
Field as well as the team's training facility. Infoblox grid technology
provides resiliency advantages, ensuring that the network and applications
are always available, and links the appliances into a unified, centrally
managed, core network services platform that facilitates one-button
upgrades, saving significant IT resources.
"Before Infoblox, there was no redundancy and when we had to schedule a
network upgrade there was an 8- to 10-hour outage," added Stoffel. "Now
when we upgrade the systems, there is no recognizable downtime to our staff
and end users; that is an incredible cost savings and operational advantage
for our IT team."
Additionally, Infoblox's purpose-built appliance solution has a hardened
operating system, no open ports, and no general user logins, making it much
more difficult to penetrate than general-purpose operating systems with
known vulnerabilities.
And, the D-backs' IP addressing, which was static prior to using Infoblox,
is now automated and robust enough to easily handle peak game time IP
address requests from media representatives and D-back personnel.
