King & Spalding Adds Top Litigation Talent in Northern California

SILICON VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - October 1, 2008) - King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today the continued expansion of its life sciences practice and its California practice with the addition of Timothy T. Scott and Geoffrey M. Ezgar, as partners in the firm's Redwood Shores, California, office. Scott and Ezgar's arrival brings the total number of lawyers and non-lawyer professionals in King & Spalding's Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices to 32, including 10 partners.

The arrival of Scott and Ezgar adds securities litigation and commercial litigation expertise to the firm's already wide capabilities in the life sciences arena -- both in California and firmwide. Firmwide, King & Spalding has more than 125 lawyers and professionals who devote a significant amount of their practice to the pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device arena. In California, in addition to the securities litigation and commercial litigation expertise which Scott and Ezgar add, the firm also has significant expertise in the areas of patent litigation, FDA counseling, products liability, and patent prosecution.

"Tim and Geoff's arrival allows us to continue to do one of the things we came to California to do -- to add additional depth and breadth to our already leading pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device practice," said Courtland L. Reichman, King & Spalding's intellectual property practice group leader, who is relocating to become managing partner of its California offices. "In addition, their arrival adds additional capacity in Silicon Valley to address the securities and complex commercial litigation needs of our clients in other industries and therefore complements several of our other leading practices, including our securities litigation, government investigations, and professional services liability practices."

Scott, a seasoned litigator, has practiced law in Silicon Valley for nearly two-thirds of his 23-year legal career. He joins King & Spalding from Sidley Austin LLP, where he was a partner and the chair of its litigation practice group in the San Francisco office. Scott concentrates on securities litigation and other complex business litigation, including consumer class actions and large contract and other business disputes. In the Life Sciences area, Scott focuses on the litigation/arbitration of collaboration agreements and joint ventures, licensing disputes, distribution and supply agreements, qui tam actions, class actions and issues related to off-label promotion. He received a B.A. from Stanford University and a J.D., cum laude, from The University of Chicago Law School.

Ezgar likewise focuses on securities class action defense and complex commercial litigation both in the Life Sciences and other areas. In addition, Ezgar regularly represents professional services firms in professional liability litigation and government investigations. He joins King & Spalding from Sidley Austin LLP, where he was a partner. Ezgar served as a law clerk to Judge Martin J. Jenkins of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He earned a B.A. at the University of California-Irvine and a J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law.
