Harsco Receives New European Infrastructure Contracts Totaling Close to $7 Million

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 17, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Worldwide industrial services company Harsco Corporation (NYSE:HSC) announced today its receipt of several new European infrastructure contracts valued at close to $7 million, continuing Harsco's strong presence in the ongoing global infrastructure sector.

The contracts are led by an award worth up to $4 million over its duration to supply rental formwork during the construction of a major highway interchange in Poland. The project is part of the multi-faceted Pan-European Transport Corridor network, one of the European Union's biggest infrastructure investments.

The award adds to Harsco's ongoing role on highway projects in Europe as well as North America, where Harsco formwork is used for the pouring and curing of large cast-in-place concrete shapes and structures, such as bridges, piers, and ramps. The new interchange will connect three major highways in Poland, giving motorists and shippers convenient access into Germany and western Europe as well as north-south access from northern Poland to the Czech Republic. Harsco is concurrently supplying large-frame wall and soffit formwork and support frames to the main A1 highway construction.

Harsco's contracts also include an award from global construction services giant Bilfinger Berger to supply rental formwork during construction of a new office building in Arnulfpark(r), a 45 acre prime commercial and residential development in Munich, Germany. Harsco's engineered forms will support construction of the building's concrete walls and slabs.

Harsco has also been selected to provide the scaffolding for the exterior renovation of the famed Gare du Nord railway station in Paris, the busiest railway station in Europe and the third busiest in the world. The project will use Harsco's Modex scaffolding system, a highly versatile modular design well suited to the station's ornate exterior contours and facades. Harsco will also support another major project in France, the new Pole de Loisirs, a vast sports and leisure center scheduled to begin construction next month in Lyon. The new complex will include shopping facilities, hotels and a 3,400-seat cinema. Harsco will supply rental formwork for the project's on-site concrete construction.
