LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 22 Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees were recognized at the 13th National Women of Color Awards Conference for their achievements in science, engineering and technology; leadership in their workplaces and communities; and their outstanding work as role models and mentors.

Among the recipients, Nora Lin was honored with the career achievement award; Britt Rodgers was recognized with the community service award; and Betty Nash received the special recognition award. Additionally, eight Northrop Grumman employees received All Star awards, and eleven employees received Rising Star awards.

Lin, manager of supportability engineering for Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector, received the career achievement award for her contributions to the engineering field, and her work as a role model and mentor for minorities in technology. Lin has more than 25 years of experience working as an engineer and has been a Northrop Grumman employee for the past 15 years. Lin is also the president-elect of the Society of Women Engineers. Lin earned a Bachelor's of Science in physics at Chung Yuan Christian College of Science and Engineering in Taiwan and earned a master's degree in physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Rodgers was honored for her community service efforts. In addition to serving as the C4ISRT Network Systems program systems engineer for military ground-stations at Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector, Rodgers regularly mentors those on her team and within the community at large.
She is the engineer in-charge for two summer sessions for Northrop Grumman's Teachers and Engineers for Academic Achievement Program, introducing math and science teachers to high-tech environments and identifying available resources so students are exposed to engineering. She also mentors high school students, helping them pursue technical careers in college. Rodgers facilitates an annual summer weekend program called Language that Invokes Prosperity and Productivity, which introduces 12-14-year-old girls to the concepts behind situation leadership through conversations. Rodgers earned a Bachelor's of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Delaware.
Nash was the recipient of the special recognition award for her high merit, broad effect on people in many disciplines and value to society as a whole. Nash, senior systems engineer and section manager for Northrop Grumman's Information Technology sector, has 18 years of software development experience leading and managing project teams; developing, integrating, and improving work processes; and problem solving. She has strong in-depth experience in software development and technologies. She earned her bachelor's degree in electronics engineering from George Mason University (GMU), and bachelor's degrees in French and political science from Miami University. She also earned her master's degree in Information Systems from GMU.
Eight Northrop Grumman employees received All Star awards for their excellence at work and in their communities, including Joy Bazzle, Cessily Greene, Tameika Hollis, Denise Christopher-Millner, Genia Giles, Pamela Jones, Van Nguyen and Tami Smith.
Eleven Northrop Grumman employees who are helping to shape the future of technology received Rising Star awards, including Tes Akpovi, Adesha Celestine, Jacqueline Finger, Auta Boykins, Kiwah Kendrick, Chau Tran, Crystal Williams, Davida Cunningham, Tamar Fleming, LaChina Tillman and Shirlean Todd.
Since 1986, these awards presented at the National Women of Color Awards Conference honor innovators who demonstrate excellence in science, engineering, or technology, leadership in their workplaces and communities, outstanding work as role models and mentors, and commitment to recruiting and retaining minorities in the nation's science and technology enterprises.
