King & Spalding Advises Jadwa Investment on Award-Winning Fund

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA--(Marketwire - December 3, 2008) - King & Spalding, a leading
international law firm, advised Jadwa Investment Company on the structure
and formation of the Jadwa Luberef Fund, which received the award for "Best
New Private Equity Fund" at the 2008 Private Equity World MENA Awards on
November 18. It was the first Saudi Arabian fund to invest in a single
unlisted asset in Saudi Arabia.
Private equity funds were judged on the following criteria: geographical
and variety of sources of funding; innovativeness of the fund structure;
ability of the fund to introduce new investors to private equity; quality
of the presentation and marketing of the fund; rapidity with which the
capital was raised; fundraising success in exceeding targets and
expectations.
The cross-office team of King & Spalding lawyers that represented Jadwa
Investment Company on the formation and documentation of the fund and
advised on the legal and Shari'ah-compliance aspects of the structuring of
the fund was led by partner-elect Nabil Issa of the firm's Dubai and Riyadh
offices and by Dubai-based corporate partner Benjamin Newland. Islamic
finance partners Jawad Ali and Isam Salah, located in Dubai and New York,
respectively, assisted with the Shari'ah-compliant structuring of the fund.
