James Bremen Joins King & Spalding's Construction Team

LONDON--(Marketwire - January 8, 2009) - King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today the addition of James Bremen as a partner in the firm's global transactions group in its London office. Bremen has represented owners, developers, lenders, contractors and consultants in construction matters in 25 countries and been involved in some of the largest and most complex international construction projects in the world. He has a strong Middle East construction practice, which he will continue to develop at King & Spalding.

"Having such an experienced and well-respected lawyer as James join our team is a big step in our strategy to expand the construction practice at King & Spalding," said Scott Greer, head of King & Spalding's construction transactions practice. "By continuing to reinforce our existing talents and expertise in this field, we are demonstrating our determination to strengthen our growing reputation as a leading force within the construction industry."

Bremen has specific industry knowledge in mining, power, oil and gas, LNG, petrochemical, water and the infrastructure and construction sectors. He also has significant expertise in project development and dispute resolution.

Bremen joins King & Spalding from Maxwell Winward. Prior to that, he was with White & Case in London. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Law from Griffith University.

Also joining King & Spalding are associates Mark Veitch, Diana Fatkullina and Tom Trevorrow, who worked with Bremen at Maxwell Winward.

Bremen said, "I am very pleased to have joined King & Spalding and to be part of its talented construction team. I hope to play an active role in the expansion of the team's worldwide practice, and I look forward to working with Scott and his group in further strengthening King & Spalding's reputation for offering clients excellent service in the construction sector."

King & Spalding is one of the first full-service law firms in the world to have established a practice devoted to construction law. King & Spalding has one of the largest construction transactional practices in the world, focused solely on representing owners, developers and lenders in the drafting and negotiation of construction-related agreements for their global projects and on other related matters, including selecting the appropriate project delivery system and contractual structure, preparing requests for proposals and bids and resolving claims and disputes during the project. Many of the team's lawyers also have extensive experience arbitrating and litigating construction disputes, giving them a deep understanding of problems that can arise during projects and how to avoid or mitigate them.

"We are pleased to welcome James, Mark, Tom and Diana to King & Spalding and look forward the contribution they will make to the continuing expansion of our London practice," said John L. Keffer, managing partner of King & Spalding's London office. "Their arrival builds on our existing construction practices in Houston and Abu Dhabi, and their addition in London will help us to further grow our construction transactional work in the Middle East and Russia."

King & Spalding's London office, which opened in 2003, specializes in commercial and financial transactions (with a particular focus on Islamic finance, project finance, mergers and acquisitions and private equity) and a range of other practice areas, including tax, labour and employment and international arbitration. The office is moving to expanded quarters at 125 Old Broad Street later this month.
