Spectrem Affluent Investor Index (SAII)(R) Rises 9 Points in April to -21

Second-Straight Advance Brings Index to Highest Level Since August 2008; Spectrem Millionaire Investor Index (SMII)(R) up 7 Points to -19

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - May 6, 2009) - Spectrem Group (www.spectrem.com) announced today that its Spectrem Affluent Investor Index (SAII)® rose 9 points in April to -21, for its second-consecutive monthly gain.

The rise in the affluent index, which measures the investment outlook of households with $500,000 or more in investable assets, keeps the index in mildly bearish territory and follows an 8-point advance in March 2009. It also brings the index to its highest level since August 2008, when it stood at -13.

Meanwhile, the Spectrem Millionaire Investor Index (SMII)® rose 7 points in April to a mildly bearish reading of -19, its second-consecutive gain.

"Affluent investors and millionaires both showed solid improvement in their investment outlook for a second-straight month in April. With both groups still mildly bearish, April's improvement may signal that the nation's wealthiest investors are settling down from several panicky months. However, it's too early to infer any real change in outlook and forward plans," said George H. Walper, Jr., President of Spectrem Group.

In response to an open-ended question about the one factor most affecting their investment plans, affluent investors in April cited: stock market conditions (30%); the economic environment (18%); retirement (8%); household income (3%); and household cash flow (2%). Those choosing the economic environment fell from 27% in January 2009, the last time this question was asked, while those choosing stock market conditions rose from 26%.

Millionaires' concern about the economic environment equaled those of the affluent (18%), but they were slightly more worried about stock market conditions (31%).
