NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 1, 2009) - King & Spalding, a leading international law
firm, announced today that Michael C. Rupe has joined the firm's financial
restructuring group as a partner in New York. Rupe concentrates his
national practice in corporate bankruptcies, workouts and restructurings.
"We are excited that Mike has joined our team," said Paul K. Ferdinands,
leader of King & Spalding's financial restructuring group. "He brings to
the firm an exceptional background as a lending-side bankruptcy lawyer, and
we expect him to play a significant role in the continuing expansion of our
already comprehensive financial restructuring and bankruptcy practice."
Rupe joins King & Spalding from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, where he was
co-chair of the firm's New York bankruptcy and creditors' rights practice.
Rupe acts as lead counsel for secured lenders, syndicated loan agents and
participants, venture capital concerns and their portfolio companies and
borrowers/debtors in all aspects of in-court and out-of-court workout,
restructuring and reorganization matters, including DIP financing and cash
collateral matters. He also represents sellers and buyers in connection
with acquisitions and divestitures of distressed properties, transactions
occurring both in bankruptcy and outside of bankruptcy, including
assignments for the benefit of creditors, receiverships and UCC sales. He
earned a J.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and
received a B.A. degree from Ohio State University.
"The firm's focus on bankruptcy and restructuring presents an exciting
opportunity for me to grow my practice," Rupe said. "King & Spalding
consistently ranks among the most active bankruptcy law firms in the
nation, and I look forward to helping carry on this tradition by providing
the best strategic and tactical counsel to the firm's clients."
Rupe is the eighth bankruptcy lawyer the firm has hired in the past 23
months, and his arrival continues the firm's expansion of its restructuring
practice, including the addition of a bankruptcy practice in Houston. In
October 2008, the firm added partner Arthur Steinberg, a high-profile
financial restructuring lawyer with 29 years' experience, to its New York
office.
King & Spalding has one of the nation's preeminent financial restructuring
practices. The firm provides valuable knowledge and in-depth experience to
virtually all facets of corporate reorganizations, in-court and
out-of-court debt restructurings, bankruptcy and insolvency litigation and
distressed M&A transactions. The firm is regularly retained in large
bankruptcy matters and workouts to represent debtors, trustees, creditors'
committees, institutional lenders, other critical creditors and
parties-in-interest, and potential acquirers of businesses and large
assets.
