VCAS for IPTV Provides Centralized Wholesale/Retail Support to Meet Needs of Telcos Across the State

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - July 21, 2009) - Verimatrix, setting the standard in
content security technologies that enhance the value of pay-TV networks,
today announced that Iowa Network Services (INS) has deployed the
Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV to
protect its IPTV wholesale network with a combination of central and local
linear content provisioning. INS, which represents a network of independent
telephone companies that provides telecommunications services to rural
Iowans, is currently using the Verimatrix security system via its Digital
Entertainment Television platform to nine local operators and more than
25,000 set-top boxes (STBs) across Iowa.
"Verimatrix has demonstrated its commitment to the IPTV wholesale and
managed service market with some unique capabilities in their security
architecture," said Dennis Pearson, executive manager of Video at INS. "Our
IPTV system operators are very happy with the sophisticated options for
local subscriber and content management models, as well as choice in
infrastructure equipment, that VCAS for IPTV offers."
INS is committed to providing Iowa's independent telephone companies
options for providing multichannel video services to their customers. INS
has been offering IPTV solutions since 2002 and offers a centralized
middleware solution and also supports independent telephone companies in
having the flexibility to select their own middleware and STB equipment
that is compatible with Verimatrix's content security.
MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 multicast streams are encrypted at the shared INS
head-end and distributed through the INS and independent telephone
company's video networks all the way to the point where it reaches the
customer's STB. By leveraging the INS centralized IPTV head-end and
Verimatrix's powerful Remote Stream Manager™ to create a controlled
hierarchical distribution of content keys, the independent telephone
companies can reduce the capital and operational expenditures required to
offer a rich line-up of IPTV channels.
"INS has been very successful with its IPTV wholesale and fiber
distribution service," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing
officer at Verimatrix. "As one of our largest wholesale/retail customers,
INS is pushing the boundaries of secure IP video distribution, which will
ultimately help define the next-generation IPTV services platform."
