Nexamp, Inc. Completes Cape Cod's Largest Solar PV Install on Osterville Marina

Osterville Marina Teams Up With Clean Energy Solutions Company, Nexamp, Inc., to Construct the 57 kW Grid-Tied Solar Array

OSTERVILLE, MA--(Marketwire - July 21, 2009) - Oyster Harbors Marine recently completed installation of the largest solar photovoltaic system on Cape Cod atop the marina's new 20,000 square foot addition. It is the unique result of five Massachusetts based companies collaborating on a renewable energy project. The companies include: Oyster Harbors Marine owned by Silvia & Silvia Builders of Osterville and Hy-Line Cruises of Hyannis, installer Nexamp, Inc. of North Andover, and solar inverter manufacturer Solectria Renewables of Lawrence. The array, which consists of 276 Kyocera solar panels, was installed by Nexamp early last month and will produce approximately 30 percent of the electricity needs for the full-service marina, located on North Bay in Osterville, with access to Nantucket Sound on the south side of the Cape.

Ron Silvia, president of Oyster Harbors Marine, said he is thrilled about the marina's green approach, while offering high praise for all the Massachusetts-based companies that helped create the array, including Nexamp. "Nexamp has been a great company to work with," he said. "We're very excited about the solar power project." Renovations to the marina have been in the works for years, and began in earnest last August, with demolition of an older, inefficient boat storage building. Upon completion of the demolition, Oyster Harbors Marine constructed a new, more efficient, greener building that makes use of radiant heat, enhanced insulation and, of course, the solar array on the south-facing side of the 20,000-square-foot structure. "We ran out of roof," said Silvia, noting that if there was more room, the company would have put up even more solar panels to help offset the energy demands of the bustling marina.

Nexamp President Dan Leary said the solar system is tied to the grid and will immediately begin lowering the electricity bill for Oyster Harbors Marine. The investment has a payback period of less than 5 years, and is designed to last more than 30 years, he said. "This is a terrific location for a solar array of this size, and Ron Silvia was a great partner on the project," he said. It is actually the second Cape Cod project the companies have collaborated on. Last year, Nexamp and Silvia completed work on a modern, green home in Truro that is carbon-neutral, thanks in part to the solar array installed by Nexamp, as well as a host of other energy-saving features. Silvia said that after working with Nexamp on the Truro home, he knew Nexamp was a good company. "They do what they say they're going to do and they are on schedule," he said. "As a subcontractor, they are in the top 10 percent."

At 10 a.m. on Aug. 13, local and state dignitaries as well as company officials will gather at Oyster Harbors Marine, 122 Bridge St., Osterville, for an official unveiling of the solar array and the new building construction. Light breakfast refreshments will be served.
