Brooklyn Youth Holding Benefit Concert to Support Haiti Relief Efforts

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Jan. 21, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the wake of the devastating January 12th earthquake outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, concerned students at the Prospect Heights Campus in Brooklyn have come together to raise awareness and funds for organizations working to bring sustainable aid to Haiti. This Friday, January 22, a benefit concert is being held at the campus’ auditorium as the culminating event of Haitian Heritage Pride Week.

The Prospect Heights Campus, which includes Global Kids’ own High School for Global Citizenship, has a diverse student body with strong representation from the local Afro-Caribbean community, including a significant number of Haitian-Americans. Following the news of the terrible earthquake in Haiti last week, students of all backgrounds responded quickly in an effort, not only to help raise support for the relief efforts underway in Haiti, but also to bring attention to the country’s rich culture and history.

Friday’s Haiti Solidarity benefit concert will feature local and international Haitian music and dance artists, as well as poetry and reflections from many of the school’s Haitian students. The suggested donation is $10 and all funds go to Doctors Without Borders and Artists Village, a grassroots organization already active in Haiti.
