Despite the thrashing overall indices took last week, we did see some stocks that performed well. The mega banks took the brunt of the downturn while some financial-related stocks faired much better. One such equity, WikiLoan Inc. (OTCBB:WKLI), performed considerably better and seems to have attracted some positive attention.

Although the market may have been overextended, most analysts blame last week's near melt down on Obama's "new rules" speech. Obama's speech aimed largely at banking institutions went over like...well, passing gas in a church service. And judging by the market's reaction it was a real stinker.

The conventional wisdom is that Obama is taking down the big banks and bringing the rest of Wall Street with them, but after a closer look at his proposals, it seems like business as usual. In fact, a recent businessinsider.com report highlighting some of the vague language in the proposed regulations reported that "A person familiar with the operations of one big Wall Street bank said it expects that new regulation will affect less than 1% of its overall business."

The report further indicated that even the oft-scorned proprietary trading by banks may be safe. The bottom line is that the heated rhetoric may be just that and not much more. The implementation of the new rules may indeed be little more than ceremonial.
