General Growth Properties Inc. (GGWPQ) is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT). GGP is the owner or manager of over 200 regional shopping malls in 44 states and the owner of five master planned communities. "For the third quarter of 2009, Core Funds from Operations (Core FFO) per fully diluted share were $0.28, Funds from Operations (FFO) per fully diluted share were $0.31 and earnings per share - diluted (EPS) were a loss of $0.38. In the comparable 2008 period, Core FFO per fully diluted share were $0.62, FFO per fully diluted share were $0.56 and EPS were a loss of $0.08.
"Tuesday Simon Property Group made an offer to acquire GGWPQ for $10 billion. In its bid for GGWPQ, Indianapolis-based Simon Property said its purchase would be a fully financed transaction, with the company paying $9 billion in cash. Simon also said it would provide a 100% cash recovery of par value plus accrued interest and dividends to GGWPQ's unsecured creditors."
