Hop-on and USAcig Comment on New Clinical Trial


LOS ANGELES, March 17, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hop-on (Pink Sheets:HPNN) and USAcig, Inc. continue their efforts on trying to educate the smoking community of the potential health benefits of quitting smoking. Major study shows, after one year of quitting smoking, smokers' arteries showed signs of improvement, which can drastically reduce the risk of heart disease. Results were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. James Stein, a University of Wisconsin-Madison cardiologist, states: "A lot of people are afraid to quit smoking because they're afraid to gain weight."

New research ensures that these people achieve huge health benefits even if they increase pounds. Once they adjust to not smoking, hopefully they can shed the pounds gained he said.

One third of smoking-related deaths in the U.S. alone are due to heart disease. Giving up the smoking habit is also known to lower the risk of developing or dying of lung cancer.

After one year, 36 percent of the study participants had quit and it made no difference which method of cessation they used, Stein said. 

In medical terms, their artery function improved by 1 percent in the quitters after the 12 month trial.

"That may not sound like much but research proves it reduces the risk of developing heart disease by 14 percent," Stein said.
