Montes Winery Mourns the Loss of Founding Partner Douglas Murray

SANTIAGO, CHILE--(Marketwire - July 2, 2010) -  It is with great sadness that we announce that Mr. Douglas Murray, Director of Montes Winery and pioneer of the Chilean wine industry, passed away on June 30, 2010 after a long illness. Douglas' strength, talents and kindness left a profound impression on all of those who were lucky enough to meet him. His determination and passion for producing high quality Chilean wines was instrumental in the creation of Montes Winery.

Born in 1942 in the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile, Douglas dedicated his life to the pursuit of bringing Chile to the forefront of the wine world. He helped establish quality controls and Denominations of Origin for the Chilean wine industry, and served as the founding Chairman of Wines of Chile. Douglas' efforts in expanding the horizons for Chilean wines played an integral role in Montes' success. In 2000, Douglas was fittingly honored by Vinothèque Magazine as one of the six most influential international wine personalities.

Douglas lived his life to the fullest in every way. In his spare time, he enjoyed deep sea diving, collecting ethnic objects from around the world, and gardening. As the visionary behind the angel theme that has become synonymous with the Montes brand, he strongly believed that angels protected him throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by everyone at Montes Winery, his friends, colleagues and family. He is survived by his wife, Lucia Lopes and three children, Douglas Jr., Pamela and Dennis.
