WHAT: | Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa will be joined by City Councilmembers Bill |
Rosendahl and Tom LaBonge and airport commissioners at a ribbon-cutting ceremony | |
to commemorate the completion of the $12.3-million LAX Theme Building Renovation | |
and Seismic Retrofit Project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). | |
The landmark Theme Building began a three-year renovation in 2007 after a 1,000- | |
pound piece of stucco fell off one of the upper arches. The renovation included a | |
significant seismic retrofit, complete reconstruction of the stucco facade of the upper | |
and lower arches, and upgrading Americans with Disabilities Act features. | |
The Observation Deck, which was closed after 9/11, will re-open to the public on | |
Saturdays and Sundays only, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning next Saturday, July 10, | |
