Iconic LAX Theme Building Completes $12.3-Million Renovation; Popular Observation Deck Set to Re-Open to General Public


ADVISORY, July 1, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

WHAT: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa will be joined by City Councilmembers Bill
  Rosendahl and Tom LaBonge and airport commissioners at a ribbon-cutting ceremony
  to commemorate the completion of the $12.3-million LAX Theme Building Renovation
  and Seismic Retrofit Project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
   
  The landmark Theme Building began a three-year renovation in 2007 after a 1,000-
  pound piece of stucco fell off one of the upper arches. The renovation included a
  significant seismic retrofit, complete reconstruction of the stucco facade of the upper
  and lower arches, and upgrading Americans with Disabilities Act features. 
   
  The Observation Deck, which was closed after 9/11, will re-open to the public on
  Saturdays and Sundays only, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning next Saturday, July 10,
  2010
