International Real Estate Federation, FIABCI, Launches Global Consultation on Real Estate Reform

PARIS and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - July 15, 2010) -  FIABCI World President Enrico Campagnoli today hosted FIABCI's first international webinar.

This ground-breaking event was convened to help define the Federation's strategy in enabling real estate markets around the world to overcome the effects of the recent economic crisis while adopting long term measures to avoid a recurrence.

Among the participants were FIABCI leaders from several countries including the USA, Russia, Ukraine, Italy, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Germany and France.

The webinar followed an initiative at the end of June in the Ukraine where representatives of the real estate profession met with government officials to consider how to reform the national real estate market. The declared intention was to adhere to principles developed by the United Nations in collaboration with FIABCI. As a result of that meeting, a working party was created between high-level members of the Ukraine government and representatives of the private sector, including Telman Abbasov, President of FIABCI-Ukraine, to develop practical proposals for reform.

Today's webinar considered how the Ukraine initiative could be adopted as a prototype for action in other parts of the world. The conclusions reached were:

  • FIABCI, in partnership with the United Nations, can play a leading role in promoting global standards, essential regulation, sustainable development, economic stability, best practice and efficient markets.
  • Dialogue with local and national governments are mutually beneficial. FIABCI members will gain recognition as industry leaders and make progress towards improved business conditions in their areas of activity. The government bodies will benefit from professional expertise and market experience covering all aspects of intended legislation and expenditure.
  • The process can now expand through FIABCI's national Chapters around the world.
  • Progress reports will be delivered to members at FIABCI's Business Meetings in Brussels in December 2010 and at the FIABCI World Congress in Cyprus in May 2011.
  • FIABCI-Ukraine and officials at the United Nations will be available to assist other FIABCI Chapters wishing to commence a similar dialogue with their governments, based on the Ukraine initiative.

Commenting on today's global webinar, FIABCI World President Enrico Campagnoli said: "Today's event was a first for FIABCI with members from many of our Chapters working together towards making the international marketplace more efficient, transparent and stable.

The process is directly relevant to the creation of business opportunities. Meeting regularly with government at the highest level while comparing experiences with FIABCI colleagues will inevitably lead to an improved network and more transactions for those involved. At the same time, we will be making an important contribution to the long term economic health of the communities we serve," he continued.
