Charges have been filed with the British Columbia Labour Relations Board alleging the Mexico consulate in Vancouver covertly attempted to blacklist union members at two B.C. agriculture operations where Mexican migrant workers had voted to unionize. The charges have been filed by UFCW Canada Local 1518. The union represents two Lower Mainland farms where migrant workers had successfully unionized with UFCW Canada Local 1518 and achieved a first collective agreement.
To support its charges, UFCW Canada Local 1518 has deposited with the B.C. Labour Board leaked documents allegedly from the Mexican consulate in Vancouver to blacklist migrant worker union sympathizers from returning to Canada to work.
