PISCATAWAY, NJ--(Marketwire - May 18, 2011) - SCOPE Alliance, an association of leading Network Equipment Providers (NEPs), hosted its "Technology Advances in Carrier Grade Base Platforms" member workshop last week at the historic Maison de la Chimie ("the House of Chemistry") in Paris, France.
Executive presenters from SCOPE Alliance member companies offered a variety of industry expert perspectives on key hardware and software platform technology advancements and industry trends that impact Carrier Grade Base Platforms (CGBPs).
Presenters and attendees examined the ATCA technology evolution, PICMG ATCA extensions, and processor, memory, power and thermal trends, among others, with the goal of identifying cost-effective ways to improve power efficiency and increase backplane bandwidth.
"We made some real headway towards identifying the opportunities and challenges that recent carrier grade base platforms technology advances and trends present, and we set the stage for ongoing discussion among industry leaders -- the members of SCOPE Alliance," said SCOPE Alliance Board of Directors' Chairperson Timo Jokiaho.
Telecom Grade Cloud Computing White Paper
Immediately following the workshop, SCOPE released its "Telecom Grade Cloud Computing" white paper now available at www.scope-alliance.org. The white paper describes the distinct characteristics that make cloud computing usable for telecom and real-time services. It provides a telecom perspective for cloud computing standardization efforts and creates a common work agenda for SCOPE in its relationship with various standardization bodies.
