Radiation Lawyers Ralph Johnson and Lynn McKay Join King & Spalding

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Jun 7, 2011) - Ralph H. Johnson and Lynn Kerr McKay, experienced litigators specializing in radiation disputes, joined King & Spalding's energy and environmental practices as counsel in Washington, D.C. Their addition expands the firm's Washington, D.C., energy and environmental practices, while complementing those global practices in Abu Dhabi, Atlanta, Austin, Dubai, Houston, London, Moscow, Riyadh, San Francisco and Singapore. Prior to joining King & Spalding on May 30, 2011, Johnson and McKay were partners at Blank & Rome, LLP.

"Ralph and Lynn are highly recognized litigators who specialize in environmental and especially radiation litigation," said litigation partner Carol Wood, who leads King & Spalding's energy litigation practice group out of the firm's Houston, Texas, office. "We are thrilled these outstanding lawyers have joined King & Spalding and look forward to the contributions they will make to our clients."

Johnson, a former Justice Department attorney, has represented major oil companies in cases alleging personal injury and property damage from naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) associated with oil and gas production. He also has represented nuclear power companies in lawsuits claiming personal injury caused by radiation exposure. Johnson served as an assistant United States attorney for the District of Utah and a senior trial attorney and assistant director in the civil division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he directed the radiation and toxic tort litigation teams and defended many of the seminal radiation cases against the federal government. He received a J.D. degree from the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney College of Law and a B.A. degree from Weber State University.

McKay represents clients in matters involving oil and gas NORM, oil and gas groundwater contamination and nuclear power plant operations. She counsels clients on compliance with United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and other state and federal controls for radioactive materials. McKay received a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law and B.A. degree from the College of William & Mary.
