Power-One Will Present New Utility-Scale Inverter Concept; Residential and Commercial Inverters at EU PVSEC

HAMBURG, Germany, Sept. 2, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Power-One, Inc. (Nasdaq:PWER), a leading provider of renewable energy and energy-efficient power conversion and power management solutions, will host a presentation on its new AURORA ULTRA central inverter concept at the 26th EU PVSEC (European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition). In addition, the company will showcase the latest products from its AURORA family of inverters, including the redesigned AURORA UNO-2.0 and UNO-2.5 single phase inverters and the AURORA TRIO-27.6 and TRIO-20.0 three-phase string inverters.

Power-One will showcase its products in Hall B7/ Booth B18 at the world's leading science-to-science, business-to-business and science-to-industry forum for the global PV Solar sector, taking place in Hamburg, Germany, from September 5 to 8, 2011. At the conference, Power-One will present its patent-pending inverter technology specifically developed to address the demanding needs of utility-scale applications. Dr. Marco Trova, Director of Technical Sales at Power-One, will present a lecture on the technology on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 3:15 P.M.

Power-One's new ULTRA central inverters, with a capacity up to 1.4 megawatts, are the first commercially available products using the company's proprietary inverter concept. The unit is designed in compliance with the grid requirements of the BDEW standard. To better meet the requirements of large commercial applications and solar parks, the company developed a novel circuit technology and modular design approach, enabling voltage conversion at the industrial standard 690Vac while significantly reducing AC losses. At the same time, the inverter system offers industry-leading power conversion efficiencies of up to 98.7 percent over a wide input voltage range. Other core features of Power-One's largest inverter system include multiple MPPT channels for optimized energy harvesting, a modular construction for all main building parts as well as an IP65 enclosure with passive liquid cooling, which enables a total segregation of the active parts of the unit in a watertight and pollution-free chamber. This design assists utilities and large commercial customers to extend the maintenance cycle and reduce maintenance costs.

"In achieving the maximum energy harvest for large commercial and utility-scale solar parks, the inverter system plays a critical role," said Paolo Casini, Vice President, Product Marketing at Power-One. "Our new ULTRA central inverters increase the system uptime significantly, thus eliminating plant shutdown and reducing repair time. At the same time, the BOS costs are minimized, offering greater financial benefits to plant operators."

AURORA TRIO-27.6-TL and AURORA TRIO-20.0-TL

The AURORA TRIO-27.6-TL and the AURORA TRIO-20.0-TL three-phase string inverters for large roof top installations offer more flexibility and lower wiring costs to installers who have to consider varying aspects or orientations. With an output of 27.6kW and 20.0kW, respectively, the new-look inverters benefit from the technology perfected in the AURORA PVI-10.0 and 12.5, one of the world's most commonly used three-phased inverter, to provide customers with best-in-class efficiency.

Key features of both devices include two independent MPPTs, efficiency ratings of up to 98.3 percent, a wide input range and a built-in heat sink compartment, negating the need for fans. The units are free of electrolytic capacitors, increasing the life expectancy and long term reliability of the product. Moreover, the inverters can be transported and installed easily due to their compact size and light weight of less than 75kg, while the detachable wiring box and the front panel display system help to further minimize the installation time. The product designed to respond to the cost constraints typical of medium and large roof top applications is designed in compliance with the grid requirements of the BDEW standard.

AURORA UNO-2.0 and UNO-2.5

Power-One's smallest inverters, the redesigned UNO-2.0 and UNO-2.5 single phase inverters, have the perfect size for the average residential roof top installation with an output of 2kW or 2.5kW respectively. The HF-isolated devices not only benefit from Power-One's proven high performing technology, but also offer new features like a special built-in heat sink compartment and a front panel user interface.

These products offer a high speed and precise MPPT, an efficiency rating of 96.3 percent and a wide input voltage range, making these inverters suitable for low power installations with reduced string size. Thanks to its robust outdoor IP65 construction, the completely sealed unit withstands even the harshest environmental conditions.
