Stars Rally to Support Global Kids on Final Day of Voting in American Giving Awards

Singers, News Anchor and TV Stars All Urge Support for Global Kids in the 'Educators and Mentors' Category

NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Global Kids (www.globalkids.org), the premier non-profit educational organization for global learning and youth development in New York City and D.C. public schools, is currently in the top three in the "Educators and Mentors" category in the American Giving Awards program (www.facebook.com/ChaseCommunityGiving).

This strong showing is leading its supporters to redouble their efforts. So far they have received tweets of encouragement from Adrian Grenier, Kelis, Rosario Dawson and Monique Coleman. Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos, a past speaker at Global Kids events, even talked about his admiration for their efforts during a recent program (www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeJn7sgWCxk).

The online competition allows the top vote-getters to share in $2 million in new funding. American Giving Awards, presented by Chase, is the first ever celebrity tribute to community heroes.

Global Kids just returned from summer study in Brazil and Kenya. Students regularly meet with leaders such as UN Ambassador Susan Rice and study with fellows at the Council on Foreign Relations and at the U.S. State Department.

Voting in the first round ends Oct. 5 at 12:00 PM, ET. Backers just have to visit the American Giving Awards program on Facebook to help Global Kids win at http://vote.globalkids.org. Global Kids has formed a coalition and encourages supporters to vote for Atlas Corps, Seeds of Peace, and Trees, Water & People, along with Global Kids.

Once the five finalists have been chosen out of all 25 competing, there will be a second round of voting Dec. 2–9.
