CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - Oct 18, 2011) - BoomWriter, a company focused on leveraging social media and collaboration technologies to help students create and develop better reading and writing skills, today announced that Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block will serve as a celebrity guest author for the company's upcoming national book writing contest. The competition will begin on Halloween and continue through mid-December. Anyone in grades 4-12 can participate.
BoomWriter is an engaging creative writing website that allows students to read, write and assess content in new and innovative ways. The organization is comprised of a group of educators and technology experts who share a passion for reading, writing, teaching, learning and technology.

Knight worked with BoomWriter to write the first chapter of a book titled, The Dark Star Rises. Contest participants will begin by writing what they think chapter two should be and then subsequent next chapters. Each chapter will be voted on by other participants and a winner for each chapter will be recognized. The final book will be formally published and participants will be able to receive copies of the final book. The book will be published by BoomWriter and available for all to buy online. A teacher selects or produces his or her own story start, and the students let their imagination and writing skills take over. One chapter at a time, students write, read, and then votes on the submissions they like the most. The winning chapter is then added to the story and the process continues. The teacher determines the total number of chapters to be completed, and when the competition is over a new book is ready to be published.
