Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $5.0 Million Order for Modular Transportable Troposcatter Systems

MELVILLE, N.Y., Nov. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems, Inc., received an order valued at approximately $5.0 million for its Modular Transportable Troposcatter System (MTTS) from a prime U.S. defense contractor in support of the U.S. Army's Warfighter Information Network - Tactical Program (WIN-T). This is the second order received for our modular transportable systems which represents a major advance in troposcatter systems.  Truly modular, the terminals are designed to be used in line-of-sight, beyond-line-of-sight and full troposcatter applications, thereby providing the warfighter with never before available communications flexibility on the battlefield.

At the heart of the MTTS system is the industry-leading Comtech Systems CS6716A digital troposcatter modem, which provides the highest capacity throughput of any troposcatter modem available today. The CS6716A modem features turbo code forward error correction, ethernet baseband connectivity and variable rates from 2 Mb/s to 22 Mb/s. The communications link is further protected through Automatic Power Control and a unique Auto Coding Rate (ACR) function. In adverse link conditions, ACR will reduce the transmit rate to maintain the link and will then return to the normal transmit rate when link conditions permit. Coupled with the CS6716A modem is Comtech Systems' CS4400 frequency converter, the smallest available quad diversity, digitally controlled, frequency agile converter for troposcatter or line-of-sight microwave links.

The MTTS solution delivers high-throughput capacity to enable mission-critical surveillance, situational awareness and real-time data transmission to remote, infrastructure-challenged locations while ensuring seamless compatibility and interoperability with legacy-fielded troposcatter systems.

Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "MTTS provides cost-effective, high-bandwidth communications in a package that small teams can easily deploy and is expected to play an increasingly important role in delivering mission-critical bandwidth to the battlefield."
