Empire Post Media Contracts to Develop Multiple Entertainment Products Based on WWII Story 'In Search of Yamashita's Gold'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Empire Post Media, Inc. (OTCBB:EMPM) announces that it has entered into a contract to explore the a potential for a variety of media products  based on the treatment  "In Search of Yamashita's Gold," a true story about the exploits of a modern day treasure hunter seeking to recover millions of ounces of gold buried by the Japanese as they retreated from the Philippines at the end of World War 2.

According to Empire CEO Peter Dunn, the contract provides for a feasibility study to develop and expand the treatment throughout several different formats, including book, feature film, documentary, television series, and videogame.

Dunn continued "The legend of Yamashita's gold reveals the Japanese plan to loot and pillage Asia commencing in the 1930's, and continuing until their defeat at the end of WW II. Much of the war effort of the Japanese was funded by loot plundered from countries such as Burma, Indochina, and the Philippines. The plan included transferring all of the pillaged loot to the Philippines for further shipment to Japan, however the Japanese navy lost control of the seas before the huge trove of gems and gold could be shipped. Vast quantities of the loot were stashed in the Philippine islands by General Tomoyuki Yamashita before the Japanese surrendered, supposedly at over 175 different sites, including jungles, caves, behind waterfalls and occasionally beneath remote residences."

Yamashita was executed as a war criminal in l946 and the secret locations of the stash allegedly died with him. However, that hasn't stopped treasure hunters from looking. Many of these hidden sites were uncovered by the Allies after the war, and subsequently, by treasure hunters following leads, maps, and rumors. Recent discoveries of large caches of buried treasure have resulted in the death or imprisonment of treasure hunters and confiscation of the loot.

"When we first became aware of this story," Dunn said, "we knew that the richness of the material and the historical backgrounds created the potential for a number of platforms which we intend to explore, including  not only film and television but also book format and electronic publishing."
