ASPEN, Colo., Jan. 29, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nick Baumgartner, who took gold at last year's Winter X competition less than 2 weeks after breaking his collarbone, treated fans at Buttermilk Mountain to a repeat podium performance taking silver in the Snowboardcross (SBX) race. Baumgartner along with Nate Holland(Gold) and Jayson Hale(Bronze) created a U.S. Sweep with top of the podium finishes.

The Iron River, Michigan native, Baumgartner, finished first in his quarter final heat leading that into another first place finish in his semi-final heat. It was a battle royale in the finals with an on-course accident by Stian Sivertzen that allowed for Nick to charge down the course and finish a close second to teammate Holland.
Baumgartner, kept his focus on staying sharp in the off-season by competing in the TORC Series, the off-road, short-track truck racing in which he was named Rookie of the Year.
The 30-year-old pro snowboarder, who recently signed endorsement deals with Rockstar Energy Drink, Sprint and Loctite, celebrated his win with 7-year-old son Landon, and said, "It may not have been a gold medal performance, but Landon summed it when he said 'as long as you had fun, Dad, that's all that matters'."
Next up for Baumgartner and the US Snowboard Team is the FIS Blue Mountain World Cup in Ontario, Canada February 6-8, 2012.
