DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - Feb 10, 2012) - With the addition of Educational Testing Service's Test of English in Communication to the global assessments that report Lexile® measures, MetaMetrics®, developer of The Lexile® Framework for Reading, is pleased to announce that more than two million international students will receive a Lexile measure in 2012. TOEIC, along with these other global assessments, now report Lexile measures:

- Test of English as a Foreign Language Junior (TOEFL® Junior™) (ETS)

Lexile measures provide valuable information about both a reader's ability level and the text complexity of reading materials to help match the reader with books, articles and other resources that best support the development of English reading skills. Linking a reading assessment score with a Lexile measure allows students to practice reading more effectively to improve their reading skills and monitor their progress towards U.S. college and career readiness standards.
MetaMetrics does not publish its own reading assessment. Rather, the company has partnered with all of the major educational publishers, including Scholastic, Pearson and Educational Testing Service (ETS), to link their assessments and reading programs with the Lexile Framework in the U.S. In fact, over 50 reading assessments including 21 state tests also report student reading ability as a Lexile measure, including those administered in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Illinois. When an assessment is linked with the Lexile Framework, students' test scores immediately become actionable. For example, educators, parents and students can use MetaMetrics free "Find a Book" search utility to build custom reading lists based on the student's Lexile measure and interests, and then locate their selections at a public library. "Find a Book" includes more than 125,000 fiction and nonfiction titles from more than 200 publishers. In addition to text and trade books, hundreds of millions of periodical articles and websites have been measured and are freely available to students and educators.

The Lexile Framework is a unique resource for accurately matching readers with text. Unlike other measurement systems, the Lexile Framework evaluates reading ability and growth based on actual assessment results, rather than generalized age or grade levels. Lexile measures help teachers, librarians and parents find books, articles and other resources within a reader's recommended Lexile range: 100L below to 50L above his or her Lexile measure. Reading materials within this optimal Lexile range will challenge the individual's reading ability, while still maintaining interest and learning.
