BrightPoint's Recover Service Area Maximizes Value From Recaptured Devices and Drives Sustainability

Leading Global Device Lifecycle Services Provider Showcases Innovative Device Recovery Solution and Its Sustainability Impact at International CTIA Wireless 2012

INDIANAPOLIS, May 9, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Brightpoint, Inc. ("BrightPoint") (Nasdaq:CELL), a global leader in providing device lifecycle services to the wireless industry, today announced it will highlight its Recover service area at the International CTIA Wireless 2012 show in New Orleans, May 8-10. BrightPoint's Recover service area is a key component of the company's end-to-end supply chain and customization service portfolio – device lifecycle services.

"As a provider of forward and reverse logistics services to customers in more than 75 countries, BrightPoint is uniquely positioned to run its business with environmental sensitivity as well as bring solutions to our customers that help enable sustainable business practices," said J. Mark Howell, President, BrightPoint Americas. "BrightPoint's Device Recovery solution has helped customers recoup tens of millions of dollars in device savings and kept millions of handsets out of landfills by repairing and refurbishing consumers' returned devices and enabling the devices to be restored to service. In instances in which a device cannot be returned to service, or a repair cannot be made, we ensure the responsible disposition of all eligible parts of the returned device."

At 2:30pm CDT on Wednesday, May 9, at the CTIA Corporate Philanthropy Pavilion, Chris Scott, Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives at BrightPoint North America, will speak about BrightPoint's Social Responsibility Program, which includes its Diversity, Community Involvement and Sustainability Initiatives.  At the BrightPoint Corporate Philanthropy kiosk (#4871-F), the company will further discuss how its Recover service area plays a key role in battling the growth of e-Waste by keeping devices out of landfills and creating value throughout the lifecycle of devices.

The key processes encompassed in BrightPoint's Device Recovery solution are:

  • Return. BrightPoint supports and simplifies the return of wireless devices from end-users and retailers - by mail and in bulk - by using state-of-the art return shipment verification for maximum accuracy and security.

  • Triage.  BrightPoint developed a refined process to manage inbound returns, so devices are correctly and quickly qualified and slotted into the proper processing channel.  This enables rapid turnaround to the customer on repaired devices and maximizes recovery on warranty-eligible units.

  • Repair. BrightPoint offers manufacturer-certified repair service on the full device portfolio, which includes re-flashing, re-kitting and component assembly for the re-deployment of devices.  BrightPoint's breadth of manufacturer certifications, from Level I through IV, across 14 different manufacturers, provides a single source for repair services on our customers' entire device portfolios.

  • Recycle.  Today's high-tech devices carry a proportionately high cost-of-goods price tag.  BrightPoint's recycling services help customers extract the maximum value from irreparable devices through a variety of industry-leading methods.

  • Remarket.  BrightPoint generates value from returned devices by re-stocking those that are salable, and recouping device and component value through global parts and device selling networks.

"As wireless devices have become more costly and complex, their lifespans are shrinking," says Scott.  "There is an enormous opportunity to maximize value throughout the lifecycle of the device. As many BrightPoint customers have already discovered, recapturing value from mobile devices – from the unit to component level – is good for business and good for the environment."

BrightPoint is a member of the CTIA Green Working Group, two-time winner of the Green Supply Chain Award, and 2011 EcoVisionary Award winner.  For more information about BrightPoint Recover Services, please visit www.BrightPoint.com/recover.
