ATCO Gas Reminds Albertans to Call Before You Dig

Albertans urged to stay safe by digging carefully around natural gas lines

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 11, 2012) - Call Before You Dig - four simple words - will make sure your next ground excavation project goes safely. ATCO Gas reminds Albertans to contact Alberta One-Call at 1-800-242-3447 to have natural gas lines marked before digging on your property this spring.

"Hitting a natural gas line in Alberta is 100 per cent preventable," said Bill Stephens, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, ATCO Gas. "Dial Alberta One-Call at least two working days before you begin your deck, fence or tree excavation project."

Albertans are reminded it is important to have underground utilities marked prior to excavation. Once the markings are in place, you should avoid digging in the area around the markings, unless absolutely necessary. If you must dig within one metre of the markings, do so carefully and gradually using a shovel.
